My favorite fried oysters, kaki furai, in Tokyo is at Katsukichi. Katsukichi puts a few oysters in each fried oyster (at least two, maybe three or even four). A bit unwieldy at first, as I am used to eating much smaller ones, but it’s so delicious.

I also love Katsukichi because diners can select white rice or shiso rice. Fresh shiso is minced and mixed into the rice. I sometimes make it at home now, because of Katsukichi.

Katsukichi has a few branches in Tokyo: Shibuya, Hibiya, Tokyo Station at the Shin Maru Building, and here at Nihonbashi Takashimaya @takashimaya_nihombashi. The Nihonbashi Takashimaya branch is in the shinkan new annex. It’s a big restaurant and if you go off of peak meal times it is easy to socially distance.

I love the design of the restaurants. Warm interior. Feels like #Matsumoto #mingei. Staff are friendly.
*The fried oysters are only on the menu in winter. The tonkatsu here is also delicious but today I was craving oysters.
