Bagel Breakfast

Only ¥450 ($3.40) for this bagel and coffee breakfast.

I was so excited at this cheap breakfast I spilled the coffee. Only 450 yen ($3.40) and it includes the coffee. Today’s bagel was kokutō or black sugar. The boiled egg comes with a bit of salt that is wrapped up in paper. I almost missed it at first as the paper package is so small. I love the attention to detail in Japan – and the cheap morning sets at kissaten coffee shops.

But my favorite part of this morning’s meal was sitting outside and watching the shinkansen bullet train as it goes in and out of Tokyo Station (to the right side on the tracks).

There were only two tables in front of the shop. A stranger sat down with me and I am happy to share my table but when he pulled out a pack of cigarettes I told him I have asthma and he kindly moved to the other table. Thank you, old man!

Shinbashi Kissaten

Minato-ku, Shinbashi 2-21-1, Shinbashi Eki Mae Bldg. 2

Note that there are a few buildings around Shinbashi Staton called Eki Mae. This is building number two.

I believe it opens at 7:00 a.m. Monday – Saturday and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
