Kyoto Poco Kissaten

Kissaten sando and coffee set. $5.

Near Kyōto station is Poco kissaten. I picked it for breakfast as it was open from 6:00 a.m. The morning sando set is a bargain 650 yen ($5) and includes a cup of coffee. The sliver of a shop is in a retro building in a part of the city that is being completely rebuilt so it sticks out.

Retro kissaten.

My only disappointment is that smoking is permitted. 😭 Even the owner was smoking, so it’s hard to avoid cigarette smoke. I should have checked before going. So I ate as quickly as I could and got out of there. It felt like more restaurants and kissaten in the Kansai area of Ōsaka and Kyōto permitted smoking.

Kissaten morning breakfasts are a good value.

In this photo Kyōto station is in the background. It’s only a two-minute walk from the north exit.

Sign reads morning service.
