Fried oysters kaki fry

Tonki is a local tonkatsu shop in Ginza. I love so much the ambience of the restaurant. It feels like a shop from 50 years ago. Kaki furai, fried oysters, is only from October through March. The small plate of pickles is set on the cup of hot tea. The meal is rounded out with tonjiru pork and vegetables miso soup, grated daikon – which the staff recommend enjoying with ponzu, and rice.

Tonki is on a quiet backstreet in the basement of a nondescript building. It’s not fancy high end tonkatsu. But it is good and a great value. The fried oysters was 1,450 yen ($10).
