Kaneko Hannosuke

Fun lunch with udon and tempura at Kaneko Hannosuke, a popular tempura shop with several branches in Tokyo. My kid picked this lunch spot because he was excited for the condiments on the table:

onsen super soft boiled egg

wakamé

tenkasu tempura bits

tororo kombu shaved kelp

mountain vegetables

gobo burdock root and ginger pickles

The thin Akita Inaniwa udon noodles are served hot or cold. We picked cold noodles with a hot dipping sauce that had tender ground chicken meatballs. Highly recommend. My kid chose rice topped with the signature tempura (only 1,600 yen or $10 for the set) and I had the pickled takana greens mixed into rice (1,300 yen or $8.50).

The Nihonbashi branch in the basement of the Coredo Muromachi 2 building. It’s a popular restaurant and we queued for 20 minutes at lunchtime on a weekday.

There are two other Kaneko Hannosuke for tempura in the neighborhood.
