Gargantua

Hōjicha cake from Gargantua.

Hōjicha cake from Gargantua bakery at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo near Yurakuchō Station. Studded with chestnuts and black beans the cake is not too sweet, something common with most Japanese baked goods. I love the presentation in the yellow furoshiki cloth.

Summer vegetable tart at Gargantua.

The colorful summer vegetable tart at Gargantua is almost too beautiful to eat.

Gargantua is a fantastic bakery currently in the annex of the hotel. It will be there through the end of June and then move to the main building sometime in July.

The coffee mug and cup is from the Imperial Hotel collection. Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Imperial Hotel which opened in 1923, hence the cool design. There are hints of Frank Lloyd Wright still at the Imperial Hotel, notably at the Old Imperial Bar.

If you’re in the area, be sure to check out the lobby which always has a fabulous flower arrangement. On this day it was sakura cherry blossoms.🌸
