Tsukiji Kitsuneya

Meat and tōfu Tsukiji breakfast.

The niku dōfu beef and tōfu stew with rice and sour tsukémono napa cabbage pickles (0shinko) at Kitsuneya. The shop is famous for its offal stew, which smells like a rich beef stew when one walks by the tiny stall.

My favorite is the sukiyaki-like tōfu with meat in a sweet soy sauce broth. The lines are usually very long, even from early in the morning. I went recently on a Wednesday, when the market is usually closed, and the line was short! I was so happy. I haven’t had it in a few years. I was also lucky to get one of the two seats in front of the bubbling offal pot. Most of the diners are at high tables standing and eating.
