Fukuro Juku

Mango and peach πŸ‘.

On a quiet street behind Itoya is Fukuro Juku, a sliver of a shop popular for its #kakigori #shavedice. Fukuro Juku also serves tai chazuke, sea bream sashimi in a creamy sesame dressing with rice and an umami rich dashi. The sea bream has a lovely rich texture. Enjoy a few pieces as sashimi with the rice and then put the sashimi over the rice and top with the dashi. The fish cooks from the heat of the savory broth.

Sea bream ochazuke.

#Shaveice is the popular dessert, but there is also warabi mochi. Most of the other diners came to only have the shaved ice with toppings like mango, peach, strawberry, or kuromitsu black sugar with kinako roasted soybean powder. The dessert size for the sea bream rice was a smaller portion which was perfect.

Keep in mind that the popular shop usually has a line in summertime. I was lucky to get a seat right away but I heard the staff asking those behind me to stand in line in the direct sunlight, even though there was some shade near the building. Many people gave up. The kakigori shaved ice was delicious.

Fukuro Kuju also has a branch in Ikebukuro and Shinagawa.
