Raw egg 🥚 over a bowl of rice 🍚 is a popular breakfast in Japan. Called tamago kaké gohan or TKG for short. This one is at Tokyo Station’s Hasegawa Sakéten. It’s a bargain ¥440 ($3).

What makes it special is that Hasegawa Saké is a saké shop. The rice 🌾 used for this dish is sakamai or rice for brewing saké. It’s not often we get the chance to eat sakamai.

Hasegawa Saké is in the basement area inside Tokyo Station. The shop does serve saké, so try some with breakfast if you’re game.🥰🍶

My ritual is to pick up a small bottle of saké for the shinkansen 🚄 bullet train travel. Ask the staff for a small plastic cup.
