Kyoto Tonkatsu

Katsukura Tonkatsu

I love Katsukura tonkatsu because the shop gives diners a mortar filled with toasted sesame seeds. Using the pestle crush the seeds. The aroma fills the air. Add some of the tonkatsu sauce to the ground sesame seeds to season the tonkatsu. In springtime Katsukura also has bamboo shoots and ferns that are breaded and deep-fried. The miso soup this day also had bamboo shoots. Each meal comes with a cabbage salad and yuzu dressing.

This Katsukura is located near the Philosopher’s Path and walking distance from Robert Yellin’s Yakimono Gallery for ceramics and pottery. Katsukura also has a branch in Tokyo at Shinjuku Takashimaya.
