New Depachika at Ginza Mitsukoshi

Ginza Mitsukoshi has a new depachika, the renewal completed in September, 2010. Several restaurants as well have been updated so be sure to also go to the 11th and 12th floors. The rooftop has also has a grassy terrace so be sure to head up to the top floor if the weather is good.

Located on the main crossing in Ginza at Chuo Dori and Harumi Dori. If you can time your visit for arriving just before the store opens at 10 a.m. you may have a pleasant surprise at the opening ritual. Stand on the corner of Chuo Dori and Harumi Dori by the corner entrance into Mitsukoshi on the street level. Precisely at 10 a.m. the doors will open and as you enter the store you will be greeted with bows and staff welcoming shoppers.

At Bon Buono Goo there is a nice selection of wine friendly foods like cheese, bread, and cured hams.

Another shop, Caju, is popular for its “purin”, custards with a dark caramel sauce topped with whipped creme and fresh fruits.

At the Francois Pralus boutique shoppers are fascinated with his version of “meron pan”. Usually a round sweet bread topped with a light green colored frosting (like a melon/canteloupe). His version includes nuts, a pink colored praline chips.

On the 11th floor crispy deep-fried pork cutlets (tonkatsu) at Anzu is served with sesame seeds in a mortar and pestle. Add the tonkatsu sauce to the crushed sesame seeds.

Also on the 11th floor is Choutoku, making handmade udon noodles.

  1. I was just in the newly appointed depachika at Mitsukoshi in January and it is beautiful. I needed a strategy to work my way through so I made sure to see everything. I worked my way from the outer ring of concessions, slowly into the center. Sampling all the yummy treats along the way!
