Taimeiken is a famous yoshoku restaurant known for its omuraisu omelette over a ketchup seasoned rice. The Tampopo omuraisu comes from the Juzo Itami movie Tampopo and it is said this is the recipe that was used in Tampopo.

The menu is long and includes beef stew (looks amazing), hayashi rice – like a beef stew, and fried oysters which came with potato salad, cole slaw, and tomato spaghetti. The borscht soup was served in a small bowl and the perfect size for lunch with the heartier dishes.

My piece on #Taimeiken and third-generation chef Motegi for the People Make Places book:
The current location is temporary as their last location is being torn down and rebuilt. They are schedule to move into a new building in about two years. If you love omuraisu or yoshoku be sure to put Taimeiken on your radar. A classic yoshoku restaurant in Tokyo. The first floor is the casual restaurant the second floor is an upscale restaurant.
