No When working at Nihonbashi Takashimaya I sometimes would have lunch at Yoshinozushi Honten. The sushiya dates back 140 years. Yoshinozushi is famous for being the restaurant where fatty tuna was first called toro. It is a fifth-generation restaurant.

When I was going about 20 years ago there was a young apprentice, Takuya, who was delivering tea and taking orders. Today Takuya works behind the sushi counter. I was so happy when he brought me my lunch order. ☺️🍣

At lunchtime diners can choose either nigiri zushi or chirashi zushi. The scattered sushi is a bed of rice covered with a variety of sashimi. My nigiri zushi does not include ebi shrimp or tamago egg as it is made with a shrimp paste and I am allergic to shrimp.

The eight-pieces of nigiri zushi is 2,750 yen ($18). An excellent value. It’s a busy restaurant at lunchtime and not a restaurant to linger. Eat and leave so that any customers queuing outside can dine. The staff are very genki enthusiastically thanking customers who are leaving. I was greeted with maido, a thank you for returning diners. It’s a heartfelt greeting. 🥰
