Higashi Chaya is one of Kanazawa’s most charming neighborhoods. There are several cafes for sweets and coffee or tea including @cafe_soshin Sabo Soshin 茶房素心. Sabo means teahouse or coffee shop. The menu includes parfaits and Japanese mochi sweets and wagashi confectionaries with flavors like hōjicha roasted green tea, kinako roasted soybean powder, kuromitsu black sugar syrup, and matcha.

Seating is on the second floor with the window seats overlooking the main pedestrian street of Higashi Chaya. If you’re on a limited schedule there is a stand and eat area on the first floor. There is a signup sheet in front of the cafe. Write down your name and how many people are in your party.

We loved the hōjicha roasted green tea and if I remember correctly, cassis parfait and the dango mochi balls with warabi jelly mochi set with vanilla ice cream and kuromitsu black sugar syrup.
