Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures are on Toyama Bay and famous for seafood. Part of any trip to Kanazawa always includes a sushi meal. We love Maimon Sushi, a kaitenzushi conveyor belt sushi chain famous for getting seafood deliveries twice a day, ensuring the freshest seafood.

There are a few branches in the city. There’s a branch in the Kanazawa Station but that branch is not conveyor belt – and has long lines. We tried jumping in a taxi to the Shin Kanda branch which was perfect. No lines and all locals. The interior is bright and there’s a high ceiling.

We enjoyed the seasonal seafood including local specialties nodoguro black throat, fugu pufferfish, kanburi winter yellowtail, shiro ebi glass shrimp.

Highly recommend this shop. It’s family friendly and there are booths for groups of three or more.

We were in Kanazawa for winter break and fortunately left 48 hours before the earthquake hit. Have heard from friends in the area and everyone is ok.
If you take a taxi out there the staff will call a taxi to pick you up for your return as it’s in the middle of a residential area.
