Kabukiza is the main kabuki theater in the heart of Ginza. Men play both male and female roles. Theater lovers will love the singing, dancing, live music, and staging of kabuki.

There is a short break between two shows for guests to take lunch or dinner. Dining in the theater is allowed only during this time. Bentō boxes can be purchased in Ginza at one of the depachika at Ginza Six, Mitsukoshi, or Matsuya. I picked up my favorite noriben from @noribenyamanobori and tea from the conbini convenience store. A #tenugui cloth doubles as a luncheon mat on my lap as well as a napkin.

The December evening show is fabulous. I could see living treasure Bandō Tamasaburō and the Nakamura brothers Kankuro and Shichinosuke. There is so much more information about kabuki in English than when I first started attending. If you’re a visitor to Tokyo with limited time then look into a single act show tickets which are sold at the theater. Be sure to rent the English earphone which gives context to the show.

Tamasaburo san, wow! What a treat. I would love to see him preform in person. Your bento box is as beautiful as the stage and the theater itself.
Hopefully you can see kabuki when you’re back in Tokyo!
